Horseback riding in Ajijic-Chapala

If you enjoy outdoor activities and have ten dollars to spend, horseback riding could spice up your Sunday morning

If you enjoy outdoor activities and have ten dollars to spend, horseback riding could spice up your Sunday morning. All you have to do is visit La Floresta, which is a tree-lined residential area located at the east entrance of Ajijic, where you will find horses for rent for around 100 pesos an hour.

Once you’re up and ready to go you may ride along the lake’s shore -where the view is spectacular-, or just wander around the cobblestone streets of La Floresta.

If you are inexperienced and don’t want the horse to take you to wherever he feels like going (which includes house gardens and piles of leaves where you will need a great sense of humor to stay calmed), we recommend asking one of the horse owners to go with you. He won’t have to do anything cause as soon as he appears the horse will transform into a perfectly docile little angel you will love to ride.

Most inexperienced people (we know we did) think they can just fake it and convince the horse to follow their lead, but let us save you some time: horses are cheeky and can’t be fooled.

If you decide to go by yourself and don’t really know the area, don’t be afraid to explore, the horses know where they are and they'll return home after a while.

Horseback riding in Ajijic is a great routine-breaking activity, but if you are a pro and are looking for a competition horse, this might not be the best place to find it
